{"id":108846,"date":"2022-07-31T14:18:06","date_gmt":"2022-07-31T18:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=108846"},"modified":"2022-08-02T16:55:37","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T20:55:37","slug":"toronto-reaffirms-support-for-greektown-danforth-bia-localized-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/toronto-reaffirms-support-for-greektown-danforth-bia-localized-events\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto reaffirms support for Greektown, Danforth BIA localized events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The City of Toronto is announcing its full support the Danforth BIA and its planned initiatives for the rest of the summer, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/business-economy\/business-operation-growth\/business-incentives\/toronto-main-street-recovery-and-rebuild-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent press release<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The plan is to help fund and promote the BIA\u2019s localized events centred around food, music and community engagement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\"I encourage Toronto residents and visitors alike to visit the Danforth and participate in all of the local events that are taking place this summer and fall, from Sounds of GreekTown to Caf\u00e9TO to DB Beats,\" Toronto Mayor John Tory. \"The Danforth is known for its lively music, delicious food and its vibrant community which can all be enjoyed this summer.\"\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/business-economy\/business-operation-growth\/business-incentives\/toronto-main-street-recovery-and-rebuild-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Main Street Recovery and Rebuild Initiative<\/a> (MRRI) and FedDev Ontario, the City provided a grant to the GreekTown on the Danforth BIAs of $25,000 to host \u201cSounds of GreekTown.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Events run from Aug. 4 to Sept. 25.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local artists will perform along the Danforth, while a selection of musical acts will perform at Alexander the Great Parkette.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All parkette performances begin at 7pm Thursday to Saturday, and 3pm on Sundays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The musical aspects will be in concert with Toronto\u2019s ongoing CafeTO project.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now in its third year, CafeTO allows<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> restaurants to be open later and have their own patios that extend into the city streets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_108850\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108850\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-108850\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Dipo-on-Danforth-500x400.png\" alt=\"A person in a white shirt is singing outside on the street. \" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Dipo-on-Danforth-500x400.png 500w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Dipo-on-Danforth-269x215.png 269w, https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Dipo-on-Danforth.png 739w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108850\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dipo is one of the earlier musicians that is currently performing on the Danforth. Photo by Daniel Centeno\/CJRU.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Continued support will also help the community\u2019s small businesses, according to the press release. Through the main street recovery and rebuild initiative, about 18 million has been dedicated to helping the area\u2019s business owners this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local Artists like <em>Dipo<\/em>, were present at the early portions of the Sounds of Greektown.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current commitment to helping Greektown and the Danforth BIA comes as the Taste of the Danforth festival was cancelled for a third consecutive year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The festival is considered Toronto\u2019s largest annual festival and one of the biggest in Canada.
