{"id":10667,"date":"2020-09-21T17:04:16","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T21:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=10667"},"modified":"2020-10-06T08:47:42","modified_gmt":"2020-10-06T12:47:42","slug":"centre-wellington-mayor-weighs-in-on-halloween-and-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/centre-wellington-mayor-weighs-in-on-halloween-and-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Centre Wellington Mayor weighs in on Halloween and COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween is creeping up here in the community, but could COVID-19 scare it off?<\/p>\n<p>Centre Wellington Mayor Kelly Linton says he hasn\u2019t heard of any direct concerns from people in the community regarding the candy filled night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do keep up on what\u2019s going on social media and I do see that people are concerned and that\u2019s no surprise,\" Linton said. \"Obviously, with COVID going on, people are concerned with any kind of interaction like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Linton says that Halloween is not a township or county holiday and he does not have the authority to cancel it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re doing pretty good here in Wellington County and it\u2019s because we are being responsible,\u201d he said about active cases.<\/p>\n<p>The region currently only has four active cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mayor Kelly Linton:<\/strong><\/p>\n<!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('audio');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-10667-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Mayor-Kelly-Interview-edited.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Mayor-Kelly-Interview-edited.mp3\">https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Mayor-Kelly-Interview-edited.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rita Isley, Chief Nursing Officer at Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, says there aren't a lot of concerns with kids going out trick-or-treating in their neighbourhood, provided they follow all of the COVID-19 guidance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want them to wear face coverings, we want them to practice physical distancing, and we want them to remain in their bubble,\u201d Isley said.<\/p>\n<p>Isley says it would be a good idea for the parents of the children that are trick-or-treating to download the COVID-19 app, as it helps with identifying exposures, if that comes into play.<\/p>\n<p>However, Isley says Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health wants to be very cautious about Halloween this year as it relates to social gatherings and parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing and what we\u2019re experiencing from our COVID counts across the province is we\u2019re seeing an increase and a lot of those increases are related to these types of gatherings or parties\u2019 people are attending,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Isley stresses that Halloween parties in 2020 should be avoided.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween is creeping up here in the community, but could COVID-19 scare it off?
