{"id":104090,"date":"2022-07-04T17:14:09","date_gmt":"2022-07-04T21:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=104090"},"modified":"2022-07-05T15:13:00","modified_gmt":"2022-07-05T19:13:00","slug":"grade-11-student-makes-positive-impact-with-community-fridge-and-documentary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/grade-11-student-makes-positive-impact-with-community-fridge-and-documentary\/","title":{"rendered":"Grade 11 student makes positive impact with community fridge and documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A high school student\u2019s efforts have brought a community fridge to a high school in Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p>Stevie Lawrence, a Grade 11 student from Duncan\u2019s First Nation, received the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation\u2019s \u201cImagine a Canada\u201d grant in June after submitting an essay about her idea of bringing her community fridge to the Victoria School of the Arts in Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p>With the $1,500 grant, the community fridge has been installed outside the school and Stevie hand painted the designs herself.<\/p>\n<p>Stevie says that she believes it will support the Indigenous and lower-income populations that reside in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, Stevie put her talents towards a different project by taking on the role of assistant director for the documentary \u201cRemembering the Children, the Red Deer Industrial School,\u201d and called it a \u201ctouching experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_104101\" style=\"width: 386px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104101\" class=\"wp-image-104101 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Documentary-Image-03-376x500.jpg\" alt=\"A greemn poster with a picture of Indigenous children the top.
