{"id":103215,"date":"2022-07-01T19:36:15","date_gmt":"2022-07-01T23:36:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=103215"},"modified":"2022-07-01T19:36:15","modified_gmt":"2022-07-01T23:36:15","slug":"old-schoolhouse-moves-to-become-a-sustainable-society-hires-first-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/old-schoolhouse-moves-to-become-a-sustainable-society-hires-first-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"Old Schoolhouse moves to become a sustainable society, hires first manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bianca Lee has been hired as first manager for the Old Schoolhouse Art Gallery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Old Schoolhouse Art Gallery has been a \"volunteer-run non-profit for 26 years in Whaletown.\" As the first manager, Lee is running the summer 2022 season for 5 months and<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0explains that her role is part of a bigger vision, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe board decided that they wanted to become a nonprofit society. They wanted the opportunity to access grants and expand their offerings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lee has sat on the Whaletown Community Club board as secretary in the past, and she has lived in Whaletown for 15 years. She is enthusiastic to be the glue between various organizations that can benefit from collaborations in Whaletown and looks forward to\u201c building relationships between the different players.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There's several hopeful concepts to fulfill the board\u2019s vision, Lee says. The new manager is seeking grants to fund a fall\/winter educational program that could be hosted in the gallery, during a time of year when the space typically wasn\u2019t being used in the past. Lee also discussed the possibility of a kid\u2019s art show in the springtime idea and a collaboration with the Whaletown Community Club for an annual Halloween event, which already takes place on the Schoolhouse grounds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funding for the expansion is enabled more by the gallery\u2019s newly established society status.
