{"id":102382,"date":"2022-06-23T16:50:38","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T20:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/?p=102382"},"modified":"2022-06-24T08:50:50","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T12:50:50","slug":"kingston-food-bank-seeing-unprecedented-demand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canada-info.ca\/en\/kingston-food-bank-seeing-unprecedented-demand\/","title":{"rendered":"Kingston Food Bank seeing unprecedented demand"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With Canada\u2019s inflation rate reaching a record high of <a href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/220622\/dq220622a-eng.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">7.7 per cent recently<\/a>, Partners In Mission Food Bank has seen demand 19 per cent higher so far this year than in all of 2021, which was also a record breaking year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhen those who were managing on their own, get hit with higher gas bills, higher grocery bills... it\u2019s really starting to impact them. We are seeing a significant increase this year... we\u2019re making records on records. This isn't just a bump, we're up a lot over our record year last year,\" Food Bank Executive Director Dan Irwin says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Irwin says the food bank is still meeting community demands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSo far we\u2019re managing to meet it all\u2026We had planned on a fair amount of inflation\u2026but the actual demand has shocked us that it\u2019s this high, it\u2019s unprecedented.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Food Bank is currently accepting both monetary and food donations.
